Thanks for the help folks, it has been great to hear back from you all.

Hi Purple hope you enjoy your trip to our fine country.

Purple Heather. I have deleted about 6 copies of one of your posts!

There are some really good museums in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, all very interesting and you can find them for much of what interests you.

Get on those hop on hop off busses as well, they give good tours, good value for the money and you can get off, see a bit and get back on the next one to go see a bit more. Doing this saves you having to drive in a strange city and find parking places in a big city.

Edinburgh's castle is a must see, so is the Royal Mile and all the Old City and the New City. And the Princes Street Gardens.

Glasgow has great buildings, beautiful parks and a very pretty river area.

But everywhere the people are the best, they will make your trip there.

Side trip to the Highlands! You should go to Culloden and go to a whisky distillery, hike, the Spey area is a lovely place to hike and see. If you can get to Skye, it's really worth a visit. You can do that in a long day trip or make it into an overnight, it's worth it.

Skye would be one hell of a day trip! Yes, it can be done, but you wouldn't expect to see much of the island - so if you're going I would try and make it an over-nighter!

Also, if you end up spending a few days in Edinburgh you can get around easy enough without taking any of the tour buses - while they maybe do good tours and it is true that you can hop off and on throughout the day, in my opinion the last thing they give is value for money... especially as everywhere the pass is within easy walking distance! You'd save money and get more info if you stopped in at a Tourist Info place and bought an Edinburgh guide book... and you'd have more to show for your money than an old ticket stub! (Please note tho, that is my opinion and may not be shared by anyone else!)
