Cost for a trip
Lets say... I live in the US and i wanted to travel to scotland for about 2 weeks. I would want a air ticket of course and a moderate hotel nothing fancy to stay in. Visit a few tourist attractions and some small souveniers. I know its hard to guess a price but what would you think it would come around to be? Maybe stay in Glasgow.

I'm planning to visit Scotland in April and my friend and I are budgeting about $2000-2500 (American) each for the trip. If you search or go in the off months I've seen airfare for as low as 500 roundtrip (from Phoenix where I live). We were told to get a Heritage pass which would give us admittance to many of the attractions we want to see for much less than buying tickets at each attraction. We're also planning to stay in B&Bs, which are generally much cheaper than hotels.
I have previously priced a trip on Orbitz out of curiousity and depending on the hotel, 10 days in Edinburgh with roundtrip airfare cost anywhere from $1500-2500+. |

I think most people from the US are surprised at the cost of things here, particularly petrol, which currently costs about £0.90 for a litre.
If you are visiting Scotland, it would be foolish to stay in on place all the time - Although Scotland's two main cities have a wealth of tourist attractions, most of what is to see is located in the countryside and many of the places are too far away to take day trips to. As a result you would probably want to hire a car to permit you to tour around, or otherwise use public transport, which can be expensive (and limited in some areas). Also, cause of this, many of these flight plus so many days in X hotel dealls are not really that worthwhile. |
