In Lochaber:
Crannog Seafood Restaurant - Fort William mmmmmm... No. 4 Restaurant - Fort William (Cameron Square), excellent food, great (friendly) service - a bit pricey, but worth it. Smiddy House - Spean Bridge. I loved this place. Great food, great atmosphere. Now I'm hungry. |

In Callendar
Roman Camp - expensive but great food! Callendar Meadows - this is a small hotel, recently purchased by chefs who trained at Gleneagles. The dining room which is open to non-residents is truly amazing. I had wonderful steak, my husband had venison. Beautfully cooked and the wine-list ain't too shabby, either! |

Just outside Edinburgh, at the outer edge of Linlithgow, but closer to Bo'ness:
The Champany Inn. Very expensive, but nice for a special occasion, and hands down, the best steak i have ever tasted in my entire life! http://www.champany.com/

My husband and I have already purchased our plane tickets to go to Scotland in July we will be there for two weeks. This gives a lot of time to plan where to stay and go and eat etc. We are flying into Glasgow now what I am wondering is would it be a good idea to stay in one place in Glasgow then take day trips to different areas or stay in different places? It is just hard to set up our own plans but we thought it would be more adventureous to do it this way. It is our first visit outside of the USA and we are so excited this has been a dream of mine for a long time. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that you stay in multiple locations, so you can go further away from Glasgow (unless that's what you're the most interested in) and visit other areas, such as the Highlands, etc.
I'm not sure if two weeks is enough for the type of travel I'm suggesting. Perhaps, you should choose a few places (with different "personalities") beforehand, and spend a few days in each place. Another suggestion, even though you're travelling alone (I assume), you could look up a tour group's itinerary and base your travel plans off that. You could start with this one: http://tours.ricksteves.com/tours06/...rurl/code/SCT/ I have no clue how good this itinerary is, but judging from the map, it seems to be a nice loop around Scotland. I'm sure others here will be able to help you out more. Best of luck with your trip! Quick EDIT: The itinerary I linked to assumes you arrive in Edinburgh. But seeing as it ends with Glasgow, you could try doing it backwards. Remember, you're not in the tour group, so alter whatever intinerary you find as much as you want! |
