Ok, Jinmich. Looks like you need a man's perspective on this!
In the UK, sex can simply mean "gender". You'll often see it on application forms and the like. M or F, but can also mean the sexual act. "Having sex" is performing the sexual act, in any of its forms. "Making love" means the same thing, but some people make the distiction that having sex is something you do with that girl you picked up in a bar on Saturday night, whereas making love is what you do in a loving, committed relationship. Someone once told me they didn't "have sex" they "made love". At first I didn't see the difference, but all they were saying was they didn't go in for one-nighters, only for longer relationships. There are various slang terms for this as well: I can think of at least five, but as Willy pointed out this is a family site, so I'll restrain myself. Breasts are breasts over here as well, but they can also be called, as Willy pointed out, bristols, but this isn't heard very often. Others are boobs (common), knockers (not so common), tits (very common). Any clearer? Bri ![]() |

Interesting! Most of what Brian said, (i.e.; making love as opposed to just having sex), to the slang words for a woman's bosom mirror that of the U.S.
(Brian you were starting to make me a wee bit nervous there...) ![]() |

An awful lot of innuendo going on here if this is family oriented.
Ok so I'll drop the sex thing but there is a difference in my book so that's why I am asking for two different words-definitions Thank you all anyways!!!! |

Hey, it's all in fun....
Actaully, one of the things I found most surprising is what we call a period over here (as in that little dot that stops sentences), the UK uses the term a "full stop". (which makes me wonder about the British interpretation of period when they hear it). And speaking of inuendo; I had heard the term "knackered" before describing someone who is really tired. It seems innocent enough but was explained that a "covert" meaning to the British is "as in really tired after sex". (Gosh, they have a lot of hidden meanings over there). ....and back to clothing...knickers, (which I picture a paperboy with shortened pants), refers to ladies underwear. |

Diane-Thanks
Why didn't anyone tell me about www.effingpot.com before it is GREAT!!! Also Please clarify the flirting part? Did you mean that Scotsmen don't flirt unless they mean it or they just are a bunch of flirters with no meaning or are they just so ****serious??? Or are they very romantic-it's Friday and I can't comprehend until I get my rum and coke. This really makes me think I belong in Scotland since my mother says we are part Irish and part Scot But also part American Indian- |
