Let me add to you tete a tete on this subject. Once in the middle east I stood behind an American women in a supermarket line. Her daughter around 3 was being a complete beast, when suddenly Mother America shouted out loudly "I you do that one more time I will smack your fanny so hard" well all the british people stopped in their tracks and were most upset at this awful crude women, only weeks later on enquireing did I find out that tfanny in American means backside!

I really would rather not say because there is no nice way of putting it, trust me never use it in Scotland, you will be reported to the social services and your children removed from your care!

(...uh...the most delicate interpretation I ever heard was "the front part of a woman's backside"....)
I'll bet the people were HORRIFIED!

Oh my God, but my sister had me in stitches over her experience. Let's just say by the end she was thinking she should have been charging the doctor instead of the other way around!

Diane - I think ditz needs translating - it's not one I've ever heard over here (but then I led a sheltered childhood...)

...uh...ditz....kind of like "dingbat" or "dimbulb"....(no offense, Diane)

Gosh, I feel like I keep getting myself in more trouble everytime I chat to Brian,
...each impression only gets worse! (...do you mean Brian that maybe we were actually being insulted when we just thought what colorful language these nice people were using?)

Oh, and here's another one; I just returned from walking Willy on his lead, (Over here I use a leash).
