Do kiwis always feel the need to recreate a fancy warrior dance before each sporting event to prove their ethnic background. Is it in any way significant to the game or is it purely for show to scare the opposition?

Maybe, scottish teams should show up at games wearing kilts doing the highland fling whilst singing something in Gaelic...would we be showing our national pride then?

You would make a damn good politician NZman!! (in yer face!!)

Talking MANNA

Malteser,

#Do kiwis always feel the need to recreate a fancy warrior dance before each sporting event to prove their ethnic background. Is it in any way significant to the game or is it purely for show to scare the opposition?#

"It's about Manna I believe. (I guess it's spelt right). It about respect pride and honor for you and you opposition.
Polynesians are a people of manna despite the best attempts of the Brits to knock it out of them.

I guess it's also partly to intimidate the opposition. An English friend of mine reckons they should do a morris dance Inverse psychology. It's easy to be all hard in front of 80,000 people how easy is it to act like an effeminate publican "

"The Welsh sing "Land of my fathers" in Welsh which is most impressive so maybe you should give it ago."

The point I was after is...

Does sport allow us to legitimately show extreme nationalism in a public sphere

Up your bum Love the NZman

smarty pants!!

NZman!!

Cheers for the info on the 'people of manna', I am learning all the time.

We all like to show our patriotism, as a statement of our independence. A way of expressing this is through sport, where society accepts it as being lawful. The only time Scotland can truly partake as a nation is during a football or rugby game, it's an ideal opportunity for patriots to express their respect for their nation. (it's no longer accpetable in modern day to release our aggression on the battlefield, like we used to!!)

The point I was trying to raise in my previous reply was that sport may allow us to 'show extreme nationalism in a public sphere', however at the end of the day it is only a game, a means of entertainment for people to enjoy! Some loyalists take advantage of the opportunity to shame the opposition, namely when Scotland play England, which can spoil the atmosphere for all the true followers.

'act like an effeminate publican' please explain?

Hi Malteser,

I was *******izing a Black Adder line. Morris dancing is just 50 effeminate black smiths hitting each other with sticks. The last MDing I saw was a load of over weight publicans

NZman!

I get you now lad, no need to beat about the bush!

Looks like I'm the only one brave enough to answer you back these days, you must have exhausted everyone else!! oh well, it's a tough job but someone's got to do it.

You certainly can't knock a bit of black adder, is he still going strong? I think your minds just really a big sponge! It must be if you can remember things like that.

I feel like I've lost touch with anything media related, I only have time now to catch up on the old bit sunday times, just the pressures of being a packpacker. I have no idea whats going on in the world anymore, far to hazed by the Aussie beer for anything to make any sense anymore!!

Cheers dears

Malteser
