Lachlan, you are correct... it's like watching two different sports according to who has the ball. Lewis is starting up a shinty team so I heard while I was there this summer... too bad.. I needed a few pieces of equipment and had assumed it was played in most of the Highlands... but I will say... telling people in a pub in Lewis that you play shinty makes you a really popular girl

I would follow shinty more...

...if the buggers who run our media would actually cover it!

It gets hardly any press/TV etc coverage. It's a disgrace. Cricket gets way more coverage in Scotland than is proportionate.

Contrary to popular belief, shinty was once played throughout Scotland. Even into Northern England.

I've only just recently became aware of the sport. it sounds very physical but it also sounds like a game I would rather play than watch. Like Hockey and Soccer for me.

It would do itself more favours if protective equipment was mandatory.

It's a much better sport than field hockey, BTW, more like lacrosse or ice hockey.

I wasn't comparing it to Hockey. I mean that it looks like I a sport I rather play than watch. I rather play Hockey than watch Hockey, thus the "like Hockey" comment. This sport is obviously much more physical than Hockey, unless the Pakistanis are playing that is.
