One asks why in the 21st century anybody gives a monkey's turd about the Royal family.

It's hero worship pure and simple.

One suspects the original reason for bowing to kings was for a royal rodgering.
But you don't get that sort of thing from a queen. Actually, come to think of it, in this day and age you could get a good royal rodgering from any number of willing queens I venture to say.
