Tell the Scots that they'll be paid for it and they'll suddenly have no problem in playing for a Great Britain football team (the Scots would do most things if there's money involved).

I think Seb Coe is right to be angry. The Scots (as usual) and the Welsh are just being awkward for the sake of it. The English and Northern Irish have no problem whatsoever about there being a Great Britain team at the Olympics.

It will only be a temporary affair while the Olympics last. After the Olympics the Great Britain team will be dismantled.

But the pro-GB people will win as there will be a GB team. We have no problem if it's just English and Northern irish players.

A GB team would be subject to English selection, packed by English candidates and should they win anything, would miraculously become English overnight.

Self-respect seems to be a major factor in choosing to keep separate instutions, bering valued above sporting success.

For the purpose of the Olympics, a British team would make some sense and should be decided upon by ability and performance, similar to other British athletes.

But how would they pick players ? Is the team (at least notionally) amateur ? I would be against it if all the Olympic countries use their professional national teams as in the World Cup. Then I would say - what's the point ?

It is professional players in the football at the Olympics. I can't remember exactly what the rules are, but it's something like u-23's, but with 2 or 3 older players allowed.

The British Lions are bad enough.

There should be no exceptions at the Olympics for Soccer or any other sport that takes place at the event. If Soccer is to take place at the games, they should compete as the "United Kingdom". The only other option is for the every country of the United Kingdom to compete separately in all events at the Olympics.
