busted down to Division 3, Airdrie and Stranraer promoted, is this the end for the black and whites?

If something's not sorted by next week, they'll be booted out altogether.

From BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Gretna | Gretna demoted to Division Three :

Gretna now has less than a week to escape expulsion from the League altogether as officials will not accept the continuing status as a club in administration.

The SFL wants any takeover to be completed by the early part of next week or they will invite applicants to replace the stricken club.

A consortium is known to be interested in the club, but it is not expected to complete a deal in time.

Such a shame that a fairytale rise to the top (including their cup final appearance which led to UEFA cup qualification) has gone so wrong, so quickly.

My understanding was the consortium was only interested, should they be playing Division 1

Just goes to show what happens when a large pile of cash results in rapid success without the time to build a strong foundation for the club to stand on. Pity for the fans, really. To be honest, I'm not sure why they were ever admitted into the league in the first place - presumably a lowland club needed to be allowed in since earlier promotions to the SFL were dominated by Highland League clubs.

They never really had a chance in the long term though did they? A tiny town like Gretna can never really support a successful football team.

If they get kicked out they might join the English league system?

The only good thing about the situation is that it exposed the amateurish way that Scottish football is being run- maybe lessons will be learned and similar mistakes won't be made in the future but I have my doubts.

Doubt it Andy,
The chairmen from Divs 2 and 3 will vote in the one least likely to beat their team! (Thats what Gretna were before Milestone!)
