Hey all, how is everyone
I have a question that needs answering and this seemed like a good place to go (it may seem an odd question but Im Australian so it will make sense) My wife and our family are thinking of moving to Scotland, specifically Fyfe, for family reasons, and we are just trying to get our heads around the huge change in culture it will be I have a question for everyone regarding Scottish TV, and sport I dont know if anyone here knows any Australians, but we love our sport, a lot, perhaps on the verge of obsessive , and I was wondering what is the Television coverage of sport like in Scotlandeg Here in Australia we have 5 free to Air stations. These have some sports on during the week but come weekend there would be easily 50% of each stations broadcast just of sporting events, every weekend Then if you can afford Pay TV there are another 7 channels of 24 hour sport ![]() ![]() So what is sport on TV like in Scotland? Is there pay tv providers set up? Do they have sports channels? Heres the biggest stretch.....is there the odd game of Aussie Rules shown there? or is gaelic televised from Ireland? Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and or reply to this, it is very much appreciated Aust2scot aka Mick |

5 free channels
Not much sport on the free channels, if any it's usually football or rugby. Setanta (sports pay channel) often has gaelic and occasionally aussie rules, but mostly football. We have Sky Sport 1, 2 and 3, sky sports news, setanta 1 and 2, and some other than arwe 24hr sports. I'm in England though, but guessing it's he same 60 miles west of me. ![]() |

If you want to subscribe to cable TV etc. you can see wide coverage of every type of sport but on ordinary TV the Sports coverage is pretty poor. You get football and rugby-mostly union but occasionally rugby league- but you won't even see cricket anymore on BBC or Channel 4. An example of how poor the coverage is was the recent track cycling world championships which were held in the UK- one of the few sports that Britain currently dominates- and all you got was an hour or so on BBC2 in the evening. If you're seriously into sport you need to be prepared to subscribe to cable or Setanta etc.

Sky is a provider, and Setanta are channels.
Virgin Media is another provider, it's not like in America though, most providers will give you their rivals channels if you pay for them. For the lot you will probably pay £40-50 a month. |

Mick, you basically have four options for TV in Scotland:
1. Take the basic five channels through your arial; 2. Add a freeview box, which gives you a few more channels tho not much in the way of sport (other than Sky Sports News; 3. Subscribe to Sky (satellite), which, depending on the package you go for, will give you more sport; 4. Subscribe to Virgin Media (cable), which will also give you give you more sport depending on the package you go for! So if you are seriously interested in sport then its either option 3 or 4 for you; the deciding factor may be whether you can get cable in the area you move in to! Personally I have cable through Virgin Media and while I don't subscribe to any sports channels I do get Setanta free with the package I have! Anyway, I hope the links above are of some use to you!
