Alfie Conn, Mo Johnston....Kenny Miller?

Is Kenny Miller about to become one of the few players in history to have played for both sides of the Old Firm??? Personally, as a Celtic fan, I don't want him at Celtic, and no it's not just because he played for the Dark Side. Our priorities cannot be anymore obvious. We need a defence. We already have plenty of strikers and in my opinion Kenny Miller is not better than any of them.

why kenny miller would want to go and play at paranoiadise is beyond me. he will be offered more money in the premiership. if he is coming back for 'personal' reasons he should go to rangers or hibs. celtic fans and rangers fans will make his life hell. just not worth it.

I don't see it being equivalent to either Conn or Johnston - both were established first team players at Rangers and Celtic before moving to the other side. Miller is more of a Gordon Marshall figure - a Rangers reserve subsequently moving to the Celtic first team.

I wouldn't imagine there being too much of an outcry if Miller made the move to Celtic Park. He was never a Rangers fan and failed to establish himself in Dick Advocaat's team. On a professional level, I think it's an odd move for him to make at this stage in his career. He is still young enough to move around in England or try his hand abroad. Conn was nearing the end of his career when he joined Celtic whilst Johnston was joining a team of good quality internationalists with the intent of dominating for many years to come - something which could hardly be said of the present Celtic team.

I heard Murdo McLeod on Radio Scotland this morning and he too wondered if Miller would be a first team regular at Celtic Park. If he doesn't, it seems a strange move to make - a lot of potential hassle for very little career progression.

I agree with what you are saying Gypsum. I don't see the sense in signing Miller if he is just going to warm the bench. It is also not just this signing I am worried about. The Hungarian left winger/fullback Halmosi has apparently agreed terms with Celtic. Where does this signing leave the likes of Ross Wallace, Aiden McGeady, Stephen Pearson and the new Bhoy Mark Wilson? Gordon Strachan's signing policy is beginning to stretch the patience of many Celtic fans, myself included.

Celtic, like Rangers, are downsizing. They would not have considered Miller in the early part of the O'Neill era when they were signing Sutton, Hartson, etc. Miller fits into the new way at Celtic - like Caldwell, Wilson, etc. - in the same way that Novo, Murray, Boyd, etc. fit into the new regime at Ibrox. Players who have done well in the SPL environment but aren't exactly European class.

In his spell at Ibrox, I thought Miller was a decent instinctive finisher but would panic if given time. I remember him scoring 5 goals against St. Mirren in November 2000 but then having a nightmare against Kaiserlautern in the UEFA Cup a couple of weeks later, missing a succession of chances. He seemed very much hit and miss. I don't think he's improved that much since he left Rangers.

I think Strachan has a lot to prove in the transfer market at Celtic. I know some Celtic fans rate Boruc and Nakamura as positive deals but I'm not so sure. It might make sense for him to try and stick to a market that he knows.

The Loudon has taken its picture of him down from their "Hall of Fame!"
