Hi, Jack! Well, tomorrow night! There's the barbeque, the lighting of the torches (should be beautiful against the backdrop of the mountains at dusk!), and then The Men of Worth Concert.
"Scotsman Donnie McDonald and Irishman Jimmy Keigher bring a special blend of music and humor to their Men of Worth concerts. They perform with octave mandolin, accordion, bodhrans, guitar, banjo, and mandola, singing their songs in both English and Gaelic. Jimmy comes from the west of Ireland and his music is sustained by the imagery and tradition of his homeland. Donnie is from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and his first language is Gaelic." Has anyone ever heard of this group before? Also, before the concert Joann Gilmartin will be performing. "Joann was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She has received numerous awards for excellence in singing, as well as for her interpretations of the work of Robert Burns and other traditional Celtic music. She has performed the major works of the classical repertoire with many of the world-leading orchestras and conductors in Scotland and throughout Europe. Her new recording "Celtic Recital" should be available in time for the Tucson Games. it is a mixture of Scottish and Irish love songs and ballads." (This is my very first time to anything Scottish so I haven't personally heard of any singers or groups yet really, but I am taking steps to remedy that!) The Games and clan tents and vendors are all on Saturday. David, Clan Fergusson is scheduled to be there. The rest of the scheduled clans are at http://tucson.com/TCFA/clan.htm . Please let me know which clans you guys belong to and I'll make it a point to visit their tent. My mum might even go on Saturday (it's her great grandfather that would have been Scottish so I'm hoping she feels up to going). She has spinal stenosis so please keep her in your prayers - it would be so neat to see her learning about her heritage too!) - Diane ![]() [This message has been edited by dclor (edited 04 November 1999).] |
