OK so we didnae quite do it. Every player in green and white on that pitch last night gave everything to win the match, and with a wee bit more luck we would have done it. If we can reproduce that form in the league then I'm sure we will win back our trophy.

Aye, but what about Europe? That's where the big money is made.

Europe will hopefully still be there next year. Strachan's mission now is to win the SPL and qualify for the Champions League next season.

And do you believe he'll be allowed to stay?

I like Gordon Strachan - I think he's a straight talker and has proved to be a fair manager... but knowing the Celtic supporters.... well, I'll be happy to see if he can survive 'losing' their European hopes so early in the season.

I've already heard one bigotted balloon on a phone in trot out the "he's not Celtic-minded enough" twaddle. They seem to forget that the best manager they ever had, bar none, was Protestant.

Jock Stein.
