in Sport in the Making of Celtic Cultures, purchase the book by that name edited by Grant Jarvie. Chapter three is entitled Sport and Scottish Gaeldom 1790-1900 by Lorna Jackson. Beware of caber tossers! Note: "At these gatherings the traditional sports - throwing the hammer and the stone, racing and leaping were pursued as trials of strength, swiftness and agility..." The caber seldom featured in such games. |
