Hello ,

the marathon was great . There were about 7500 runners in the full marathon ( the other races were : half marathon , 5 k and a children race )

We got up at 3:15 a.m , Alexandra went with me , she went with her parents round the course and had always Gatorade ,Bananas etc ready for me

She was holding signs as well which supported me a lot . The crowd round the 26.2 miles was super !!
The weather was ideal for running : at the start 40 F / 6 C. dry and sunny .

At mile 23 the announcer said through the microphone :

Here is Joachim, No 4946 from Germany , give him a big applause .
I liked that a lot . My future mother in law gave the announcer a hint , who no 4946 is ..lol
As well a lot of people cheered me on , I pinned on my shirt the german flag . So I heard very often :
GO Germany , some people even shouted in german ...wow ..
( for all american Scotland.com members : I had a cap with the american flag..... So no worries )

I stuck with the 4:30 pace group, because I wanted to finish at least within 5 hrs
My time 4 hrs 31 min.

We had a great time , and the support from Alexandra & her parents ment a lot for me.

The office manager from the business I work for , came out as well and was cheering me on

This was a lifetime experience !!!

Need to go to bed now , for a nap

Thank you JKennedy.

The 3 warm up races ( 20 k , 25 k , 30 k )helped me a lot , to get used to the race atmosphere .As well I could practice different paces and get experienced , what happens ,when you start too fast ..lolololol( I had to walk nearly 2 miles in the 25 kg race ... and after the 30 k race I was haveing the cold for 2 weeks , because I wanted to beat everybody in my group - I did -but got the flu .... ).

I'm planing to run a marathon in Little Rock /Arkansas on the 6 th of March . Will see , if I'm up to it , wont stress myself out or do any damage to my old body
