Good news - Saddam Hussein is getting the death penalty.

Bad news - David Beckham is taking it.

funny joke Poor Beckham, just shows he is only human.

- Witness the commentators comment when Rooney was injured against Portugal. "Let's hope he will be fit for the final", was the call, displaying a breathtaking level of arrogance that they seem regularly capable of.

I don't know though, it was only tongue in check. I would have thought many commentators from different parts of the world speak like this if there own country is doing well. I'm sure Scottish commentors would do they shame with Scotland in the same position. Don't let yourself think about ever little comment and read more into it than there really is, it was just a joke.

I know Mirza, the webamster, from the Tartan Army Message Board and he's one of the nicest and most helpful guys you're likely to meet. he's Bosnian but loves Scotland as his adopted home. He won't mean any of it seriously. He's only poking fun at england just like 99% of all Scots.

This is the problem in a nutshell. I have nothing against English people individually. I find the majority of them pleasant people and good company. The percentage of the population who are arseholes is probably the same percentage as among Scots.

I also have no dislike for any of their players. Why should I? In fact, I would find it hard to understand cheering the Portuguese players in preferrence to the English players, based on the histrionics to which the Portuguese, and most latin nations, are prone.

It does however, raise the hackles for me when I have to listen to their media spouting drivel at every opportunity. Witness the commentators comment when Rooney was injured against Portugal. "Let's hope he will be fit for the final", was the call, displaying a breathtaking level of arrogance that they seem regularly capable of.

I am not sure if I agree with the final part of the quoted text though. I suspect that they know it annoys us and so they deliberately set out to provoke.

Looks like they are succeeding.

Yes, you have both hit the nail on the head. It's the English controlled media and not the English people per say!
The English media hype up their national team so much that they think they are going to win every tournament they enter. Yes England are a good team, better than Scotland, mind you that's not difficult LOL. but at least we know we're crap so we accept it, The trouble with the English is that they can't accept that they are just a good team, not as good as they think and certainly not as good as the media hypes them up to be. When England were beating France 1-0 the media were talking about who they would be meeting in the final and they kept refering to Wayne Rooney as like the great Pele. yes Wayne is a good but c'mon get a grip.
The trouble is that the English don't get it, do they?

I think it's natural to have high expectations for your own team, when others boast about theres they don't seem to realize how much it rubs people the wrong way, but c'mon it's only football. I hate it after a game when you see the fans crying "boohoo, my team lost, it's the end of the world" Get over it, it's not that important. Could you imagine if scotland were winning a game....hey! i said imagine. And a scottish commentator said something like "i wonder who scotland will meet in the finals?" Well ok i'm scottish so i wouldn't be pissed, but i think someone who is english would laugh there head off. Could you imagine scotland in the finals? Could you even imagine them in the tournament? That's the way i see it now, if a commentator said something like that about england i laugh to myself and think, yes i'm sure that's going to happen. Although they have more of a chance than scotland, but then again who doesn't?

I agree with the last post, whatever team are playing the commentators are going to hype them up if they come from the same place, its human nature. As it was said Scottish would do exactly the same thing.

I still think this Tartan Army website is perfectic though, they are still posting anti-english crap after all this time and the football isn't even on now. Why don't they talk about their own team.

We still have a team? It's hard to tell, haven't seen them in a while.
