I must say its not all that unsimilar in the UK to it is in some pockets in Europe though probably not as regularly. But we certainly have had our fair share of disasters due to violence and over crowding.. In scotland the majority of the trouble is with the Rangers and Celtic fans...though it is not exclusive to them and other teams can also be known for there trouble..but i guess in a way we expect it...we expect there to be trouble after an Old Firm match(Celtic&Rangers) or Hearts and Hibernian... its just the way it is I guess for football fans... it is a shame...though I must say it can also be very exciting..lol

aye.. it is a bit exciting.. and sadly I will say that.. If I attend a Hockey Game.. and don't see a fight.. I actually feel cheated.. lol.. I am not sure however about a Soccer game, as I've not actually seen one played with players over the age of 6.. lol.. So.. lol.. A fight there wouldn't be too good.. lol Mistress |

Trouble at the Soccer!
Well It depends whether you mean on the pitch or in the Crowd!. Every club in Scotland has its element of nutters (that is Psyco's for oor American Cousins!) in its Crowd. The Flashpoints in the Stadium usually happen in what is classed as Powderkeg games (ie Hibs v Hearts, Rangers v Aberdeen, Airdrie v Anybody!) In the 70s, 80's and to a lesser extent in the early 90's There was a scene in Scottish Soccer called the "Casual Scene" where Rival groups would arrange a "meet" and basically get fighting with each other. It used to attract front page news and was met with general public distain. Altho these guys sold newspapers. (A section of the English Soccer fans had a terrible reputation away from home!). There have been folk known to try to start problems also when the big clubs are in Europe, I could mention several situations where people have latched on to Rangers and Aberdeen when in Europe to try to plug a more sinister cause. Aberdeen earlier this year took steps to ban its Rascist problem, and Celtic and Rangers are both seen to be taking steps to combat Sectarianism. English clubs with previous rascist problems, ie Millwall, have started a similar campaign, called Pride over Predudice! It can only be a good thing. It has to start on the pitch tho, There are people out there who live for their club!. Who would see no harm in overstepping the mark for what they claim would be the honour of their club!. Soccer in Scotalnd and many other countries in Europe is a Tribal affair, Many call it Art, Many call in Religion, Many think its life or Death, (Many think its much more important than that!) I would love to see a day where soccer fans arent seperated, where clubs could use the money saved on police to better facilities, and where fans of clubs dont hate each other because the guy sitting 10 yards away from him wears a different colour of scarf!.(Especially as I usually have shared a pint in a pub wi him less than an hour earlier!) I attend Rugby Union, Rugby League, GAA, NFL Europe and many other sports over the past year and soccer is the only one like that!. Now I throw it open to you, Is that a guid or a bad thing?
Just Ma Thoughts! Uillie |

I was reffering to trouble on the pitch....that it can be exciting...unfotunatly it does have adverse effects to the fans off of it...and I am sure we could both site many times in the last year or so that this has happened... I do not condone violence in anyway..on or of the pitch and i think it is also a shame that football in general has this unfriendly element..which in all honesty is at most only 2% of the people whom go to see there teams play...but it only takes ten people out of 60,000 to start the trouble and before you know it 100 can be involved... and as we have discussed before dogg... i wish and i know you do too that football fans were more like rugby fans or american football fans...and its always an enlightening experience to go to these sporting events and see how well all the fans get on with each other... I find it wierd that it is so different between these sports and football....
and for soccerplayer8 I found this link for you...I hope you find it interesting.... I am also sorry we have strayed slightly from your original question...but in europe in general as I am sure you can see...people are very passionatte about there football... I do agree with u as far as the different mentalities of the Soccer fan as opposed 2 the Rugger or NFL fan! I have sat in a bar with NFL fans and well they all support diff teams but we love the game! Its no secret that Rugby and NFL Europe games welcome alcohol in the stadium with no problems, The SPL wont allow it in Scotland! (I guess you can see why!) Uillie |
