Can Someone Tell Me Why (Moved From "Human Rights in Scotland" Forum)
Can someone tell me what we would lose if we got Independance from UK what do they give us that we need so much as well as a rebate on the Taxes we give them, what do they give us compared to what we give them,
Why are they afraid to give us Independance, what loss would it be to them.after all they keep telling us were a burden to them, I believe we could get more foriegn investors if we werent attached to the UK,

From a nationalist point of view Scotland will gain a lot more independently than we do under the current set up.
We'd have all of the powers any other nation on earth has, giving us the ability to take care of our own affairs and population without interference. Any money raised in Scotland would be used in Scotland and not filtered through Westminster first. American oil companies in the North Sea would have to pay us directly for being in Scottish waters and extracting Scottish oil. We could decide for ourselves whether or not we want to be included in the EU or not take part at all. We'd be able to control immigration, foreign policy, etc, etc, etc. All of those things should already be in place for us as a country but because we are classed as a mere [devolved] region of the UK we only lose out. I suppose from a Unionist viewpoint, they would say that we'd lose everything and become the poorest nation on earth, with billions of pounds of debt, no army, navy or air force, no handouts from England, companies leaving because the Scots have no business sense. Basically Scotland would ofcourse be too small, not intelligent enough and our already ageing population would leave or die and the youth would follow. There is apparently to be this great apocolypse, leaving Scotland barren. Just the way the Brits want it really so they can enjoy their holiday homes in peace, so i don't see what the problem is? In my opinion, Scotland will be independent and with any luck soon. When it comes all Scots need to be ready to work hard, Scots need to stand united and not let anything [sectarianism, race, etc] divide us because the Brits love partition. There may be times in our future where we might struggle during recessions but show me one country in the world that has never faced difficulties? Independence is right for so many reasons and i am yet to meet a unionist who can explain why what we have now is better. |

A trillion dollars lost
The government in England has already taken a trillion dollars in oil revenue from Scotland. How much is a trillion dollars well if you were to spend a million dollars a day for 2000 yes two thousand years you still would not go through a trillion dollars. Blair and Brown have managed to go through a trillion dollars with nothing to show for it. When the soviet union broke up Russia allowed lots of little republics to go free but they held on to Chechyna because its rich in oil the same applies to Scotland, England has no sense of justice I have not many any of them yet who will admit how unjust they have been against Scotland
which has been reduced to the state of a conquered country. |

I disagree. Scotland needs to be part of the UK.
Of course our economy is heavily subsidised. Imagine if Scotland had had to bail out RBS!! It would have cost us a third of GDP. Ouch . . . Imagine if Alex Salmond was president instead of first minister. Nuff said. |
