Jings, three posts, two insults... and you 'know' us?

Get over YOURSELF... (what a quaint saying, American, I presume?)

I am American but I am not my Government so please do not lay what they do on my shoulders. I came on here, not because I "know" you, but to learn from you. I'm sort of afraid to say anything because of all the little American quips. Almost Everytime I've read anything from an American the reply was always a little snippish. I would like to be somewhat accepted here but please tell me now...am I wasting my time?

Alright, so in my frustration, I believe that i presented myself poorly (I did say "hi" and introduce myself in the personals). I really want to learn...
What is your favorite part about your country? Where else have you been, and how does that compare with home? That sort of thing. Maybe there is something you would like to know about where I'm from or have been.

I just want to know what I can...within the budget of staying home

What a great way to make friends Jes_in_Cal... instead of jumping in with both barrels firing why don't you actually look at the comments made by the Americans that get a verbal beating! If they want us to admit that Scotland and Brigadoon are one and the same place then of course they're gonna get picked on. They have no interest in the REAL Scotland so why should we be nice to them?

All I can suggest to you is that if you really want to learn then treat us with some respect and we'll do the same with you! Failing that, we'll just treat you as another American looking for Brigadoon... the choice is yours!

I've read quite a bit since I stumbled onto this site. I know I have only just joined but it seems that everybody here hates America. I can't Sit back and not stand up for my country. I served my country and I still serve my country. My husband, my child's father is right now in Iraq, I wish he weren't I wish none of those men and women were there. I know that's not the issue but how can I not be patriotic.
Aren't you? I understand that you don't like what some of us say just as I don't like what some of you say. Maybe you were retaliating for something hurtful that was said, as was I. Can you honestly fault me for that?
I really am sorry that I lost my temper. Please let us get past this.
Tell me about your country, Please.

Jes, I wouldn't say that everyone here hates America... but we do hate some American attitudes especially when they look upon this country (Scotland) as a theme park*!

As for telling you about Scotland, I could spend all day doing that, but I'm not sure this is the right topic to do it in... so maybe you should ask your question elsewhere or look through the culture section as some of the answers you are looking for will be there!

* Visit Brigadoon World where you can dress like a Scot in the tartan of your choice; have your face painted the same way William Wallace did when he fought the English; go running through the heather clad hills chasing the deer; and see the Robert the Bruce's cave and hear from the very same spider that inspired him to kick English butt; then why not finish your day with the only food eaten in Scotland - a large plate of haggis followed by a Deep Fried Mars Bar all washed down with a gallon of whisky! Oh and don't forget the souvenir shop... not that you'll be able to as you have to go through it to get out of Brigadoon!
