The English Pound in your pocket

The new designs for the "UK" coins were unveiled today.

The new designs, and information about them, can be found here. The royal heraldic shield is split between the coins - and it isn't the one that flies up here - yet they were approved by a "Scottish" Chancellor who is now Prime Minister.

What a snub to his ain folk.

Regardless of the image chosen, it is a rather clever design. It's a shame that herself will still be on the other side of the coins.

There isn't an English Royal coat of arms. There is the UK Royal Arms, and then one for use in Scotland. The UK standard Royal Arms are the ones used for the whole UK and in a UK context; and thus the only option which could've been chosen for the coins. Indeed, it already features on pound coins anyway. It seems that certain people are just trying to find reasons to shout 'oppression!' and curse the English.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what's on the coins, we'll all happily accept them... although if anyone really doesn't want them I'll happily accept them on your behalf!

That's perhaps the problem.
