I grow weary of your pedantry. It's really not difficult to decipher the meaning of the question.

I too grow weary... of your inane questions and comments! ok so you really meant are Scots more patriotic than the English? and of course I knew that, but how do you seriously expect to get a realistic answer? It all comes back to that word some, as in some Scots are more patriotic than some English! Then of course you have to add in the vice versa bit because undoubtedly some English are more patriotic than some Scots! After all that you have to consider what they are patriotic about... some Scots could be patriotic about Scotland while others might be patriotic about Britain; and some English could be patriotic about England while others (like their Scottish counterparts) could possibly be patriotic about Britain. However that also brings up the point as to how many English consider England and Britain to be the same thing, but we'll ignore that ignorant group!
So, returning to your wrongly worded first question: Is Scotland more patriotic than England? One we correct it and ask whether Scots more patriotic than the English, the answer is undoubtably possibly! However a better question might be do Scots understand the Enlish language better than the English? The answer there is yes, some certainly do! And to think it's supposed to be your language too! ![]()

EC, you really know how to open the can of worms don't you ?
IMO (concerning england/scotland and not britain): There are more Patriotic Englishmen than they are Scotsmen. However i'd say there is a higher percentage of Scots that are patriotic. I'd say a good 80% of Englishmen don't really give a toss or consider themselves British, however it seems white working class Londeners and people from the border areas seem to be more patriotic. Chester, Carlisle, North East England, Bristol etc. Also, generally people who live outwi England aswell. |

I first visited Bannockburn and Wallace's monument when I was about seven so from a very young age I had a clear conception of Scotland as a nation with its own unique identity and I had an awareness of the wars of independence that developed over time. I think that is true of a lot of Scots and is the foundation for their sense of patriotism but I don't see a parallel in England. Where are the monuments or sites of historical importance that reinforce a unique sense of Englishness? Scottish patriotism is probably more apparent because we can focus on points in our history like the wars of independence when our nationhood was fought for and established. In England until recently the difference between Englishness and Britishness hasn't always been clearly defined so only recently has a unique sense of English patriotism similar to the way Scots have always identified themselves emerged.
