Exclamation 'Big Brother state' we're too late it's here !!

I’m not sure if you watched Bust My Ase on BBC 3 but Journalist Sam Delaney proves without doubt that we are now living in a 'Big Brother state'.

Since 9/11, over 3000 new offences have been created that will get you 'nicked'; the police have now greater powers of arrest (And want more) and every day there is a new initiative to monitor ordinary people.

Sam first embarkes on a mission to help those worst affected by this clampdown on civil liberties to fight back – to defend long held freedoms. He decided to assemble a bunch of so called 21st century 'criminals' – ordinary people who have been arrested for heinous new 'crimes' i.e. saying nonsense during a speech by Jack Straw. With the help of a top criminal barrister, he found new ways in which they can speak out without getting into trouble with the Law (singing).

For a start, what’s wrong with a T-shirt which says 'B.o.l.lo.c.k.s to Blair' - is it the word "b.o.l.l.o.c.k.s", or the fact that people are criticising our now X Prime Minister. There was only one way to find out – he took a box of the offending items (T-shirts) to a public event and saw whether anyone objected to wearing them. The other T-shirt, said - 'T.e.s.t.i.c.l.e.s to Tony'.

Next stop was the Shadow Attorney General, Dominic Grieve to seek his advice on a range of slogans that Sam would like to parade around Westminster. He was advised that they would all get him arrested.

Sam eventually had to end up in the former communist-bloc Albania – once notorious for its hardline stance on civil liberties. He drafted a group of Albanians to protest outside their Parliament on our behalf displaying banners saying ‘Free Protest for the UK.’ Against expectations, there was no problem –the police didn’t object, no one got arrested and the demonstration passed without incident – a far cry from what happens outside the uk parliament.

You should keep a eye on the schedule for the repeat .

A lot of that is based on one law that abolished the distinction between arrestable and non-arrestable offences. The actual effect is minimal.

But yes, there is a problem underlying all this.
