I don't like him either. I've had cause, twice now, to correct his anti-Scottish rhetoric.

I'm not sure if it's 'appealing to populism'. I would say that it simply has a strong editorial line which, fortunately for it, is popular with a large section of society. 'Appealing to populism' implies adopting a false ideological stance for the sake of sales - which I don't think would apply to the Mail.

I believe so. But then it also outsells the Herald. Their strength lies in the regions though - Herald in the West, Scotsman in the East, P&J in Doric country.

Journalism, the lowest form of writing. (with the possible exception of my blog)

Why does anybody bother to read the papers? I will never know.

Now they ae a higher form of expression, perhaps a necessary step on the road to enlightenment.

how could anybody enjoy reading a newspaper, I can only handle them with a grim curiosity. Which lie will they tell next? Which shambles of a "cause" will the gullible scotish public go along with next?

On the shambolic causes front, I love the Daily Express and their "EXPRESS CRUSADES!!!" First time I saw them I almost started rolling about on the floor of the newsagent's.

The best paper in scotland is probably the metro its free and has no political attachments, i only hate that stupid letters and emails page with people trying to be zany and crazy , it was funny for two or three days , but its been going on for years now.
