Many things are "common", like urban legends/myths. Of course the establishment would like us to be one, but that doesn't make it so.

I don't see any reason the establishment would like to make Britain a nation.

Myths and legends are in a different league from an evolving language. Something invented by man does not compete with fact.

Ill adapted they are often.

I couldn't do much worse than the bolt on "(Scotland)" legislation that we've seen passed through the bowels of Westminster and Whitehall in recent years.

Incidentally we see the same kinds of conflicts between English and European law, based as they are on different systems.
