Largely because of certain people going on about it and often it's just customary to not use the number and the same would be done elsewhere (UK and Commonwealth)

I don't believe Scottish postboxes do carry the ER cypher. We don't use EIIR either, I'll give you that. I think these days, the postboxes simply have a crown on them.

It's probably a ROYAL Mail postbox.

I've seen a few round Scotland with the EIIR on them. I dont think Royal Mail, like too many other businesses and organisations, distinguishes between Scotland and England, and Wales and Northern Ireland for that matter. If she is the 2nd Elizabeth of England then she must be the 2nd Elizabeth of everywhere else.

My local Tesco's had an EIIR postbox in it. After a group of us complained, they removed it, and replaced it with one with just "Royal Mail" on it...

"keltic_bhoy... "of everywhere else""

Including Ireland?

No not all of Ireland, just the unfortunate 6 counties currently held down by the Union. I was just trying to be sarcastic in saying 'everyone'. Although the first Queen Elizabeth was the Queen of England, Wales, Ireland and France at one point.

At various periods, the monarchs of the UK have been styled the 'King/Queen of Ireland.'

During the Irish Free State period, when southern Ireland held dominion status, there was a King of Ireland - who just happened to be King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the same time...

So Queen Elizabeth II has more of a claim to the Irish throne than anyone else.
