"God, when will this end???"
I'm fed up with that stuff. Really, I have no interests in politics and all that. It's a lot more my wee womanly brain can take. Though I know war is a human thing and there have ever been war - only the weapons changed - but I really wish peace will come soon. Before one overpaid bloody man presses the red button and blows the whole world away...

Same old, same old.
The UK has been under 'terrorist threat' since the end of 60s - whether IRA, Libyans or others. It is only in recent years that places like stations have been allowed to open the 'left luggage' services - which were closed for years due to terrorist fears. Places like London had no public litter bins, which was why the place looked so dirty and messy. |

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, as one President of the United States so eloquently put it.
Given the often-times over-the-top actions and announcements of our governments, and given the fear pervading our populations (usually as a direct consequence of our governments' actions and announcements) I'd say the terrorists are achieving their objectives. Furthermore, have you ever considered who benefits most from a frightened and cowed population? Our governments, that's who. They can trample our rights and freedoms in the name of fighting terrorism, and we will generally acquiesce. They know people become far more conservative in a crisis and are consequently more reluctant to try anything different, including their government, so there must be a great temptation to stoke up the general level of fear in order to give incumbents a head start when it comes round to election times. |

Quote:
It's a little like that American officer who called down a morning of airstrikes and artillery fire on a Vietnamese town because his unit received one round of hostile fire from one sniper who fired from one particular building, and later told a newsman who viewed the Bibical-like destruction from a near by hill, "Sir, it was necessary to save that town from Communism by destroying it" like old time prophet saying, "The Lord thought it necessary to destroy the town in order to save the people from the Devil." |
