Well spoken, Andy! You remind me of a Confederate Texas ancestor of mine (He was killed by the Unionists at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863)who said something along the same lines in 1860 in regards to our federal union in America!
Indeed, many of the Southern Confederate republicans also had a theory that Southern Independence would not lead to a civil war with the Northern Unionists, which it did...
Can you prove that Scottish independence will not led to violence and a British civil war? No, you can't!!! and the historic example is that a breakup of a nation more frequently than not does led to civil war.
One more thing: Scottish republicanism may create an English republic...Does the name of Oliver Cromwell ring a bell? Hmmm? Just look at what Cromwell did to Ireland in the bad bad old days? Do you want a Cromwell redux? You Scottish republicans are acting from a false assumtion that the English will just sit back and do nothing when they wake up some fine morning and discover one-third of the island of Britannia is independent of Westminister.
They may well decide to march north and hang the Scottish republicans, and as the English out number the Scots ten-to-one, the issue would not long be in doubt.
