I think the reason many scots lads and lassies dont join forces anymore in scotland because every war or conflict the government seems to send Scots regiments first never anyone else and then our kids get killed, so no one is going to join if you know your first to go.to the war torn areas,, like someone said earlier what about scrapping the pretty red uniformed regiments Im sure the police can protect the royal family, and changing the colour is a waste of cash and time, and aqll that pomp and pagentry,

They say we dont need more soldiers ect but if thats the case why have they taken terriotorials off to the gulf war,and if another war hit Britain more territorials would be away,
Or are we depending to much on the Federal state of europe to help out,

The Scots always go in first!!!

Why just last night I saw an old movie starring Charlton Heston, who played Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, and the British Army was led by the Scottish Regimental bagpipers:-)

Here is the British order of battle:

General John Keane commanded the left wing brigade, comprising elements of the 1st (West India), 7th (Royal Fusiliers), 43rd (Monmouthshire Light Infantry), and 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiments, and half of the 95th (Rifle) Regiment as a skirmishing line.

General Samuel Gibbs commanded the right wing brigade, comprising elements of the 4th (King's Own), 5th (West India), 21st (Royal Scots), and 44th (East Essex) Regiments, and the other half of the 95th as a skirmishing line.

General John Lambert commanded the headquarters brigade, comprising the 14th Light Dragoons (fighting on foot), and the remainder of the 5th, 7th, and 43rd Regiments.

Lieutenant-Colonel William Thornton commanded the flanking brigade, comprising elements of the 85th (Marquis of Buckingham's Light Infantry) Regiment, supported by 200 Royal Navy sailors and marines.

Its true that the scots regiments are sent in first look at the argyl and sutherlanders who waged a 3 hour hand to hand combat battle with iraqis they had to launch a bayonet charge for lack of ammunition , look at the black watch , royal garuds , royal highland fusiliers , sea forth highlanders etc, all these reigments so action first in iraq and falklands

You need to brush up on your military history. The Seaforth highlanders ceased to exist over forty years ago when they amalgamated with the Cameron highlanders to become the Queen's own highlanders.
