Calling People from Scotland

I'm curious to how some of you guys from Scotland feel about this part of American sentiment. As you know, many Scots immigrated to the US especially during the Clearances... and many of these are closed, tight communities where they still practice a lot of their Highland culture.

So, there is this sentiment in the community of people raised this way (not people who looked back in their ancestry and saw someone from Scotland and rushed out to buy a kilt) that a Scot is a Scot even until a 100 generations... and their argument is that Scots left Scotland but went on to rebuild some of the greatest countries and their descendants have created most of the greatest innovations in current history. So, they believe that due to this Scotland is the most influential country in modern history.

Here is a shirt that represents that mentality. Any comments? Insight?

Here is the company's opening site: ****************

Here is an example of one of their shirts: Brave New World

Scotland certainly punched above its weight for a considerable period but now ? I doubt it very, very much though hopefully much of the good that we started lives on and the wrongs that we did are no longer.

My views have been presented politely and attacked (not so politely!) many, many times on Scotland.com

That site? All that I hate about ersatz-Skaddish stuff! Who on EARTH buys tree ornaments with the name of a clan on them? The gods preserve us!

Sorry JC

I am certain that you had not realised that by putting the addresses in this thread it is classed as a 'spam' post.

Going to have to delete the addresses...hard decision as I know you only wanted opinions on the content...if there had not been prices on the pages I would let them stay.

Is there anyway that you can get the photo's without prices ?

I haven't looked at all their site so do not know how copyright works for them.

Yeah, let me see if their facebook page will post. I'm just curious... like I said, many of the people do not say that they are from Scotland or Scottish but that they are preserving their culture that was handed out. Many of the people who have this sentiment exist because they were outcasted in the US for wearing kilts and speaking Scottish Gaelic... because of this... many still do this today. I won't say that they held on to these customs in spite of people.. but maybe so. Im also not talking about the majority of Americans who looked up their ancestors... I'm talking about people who have had this passed on from generations before. There are communities here in the US that still live in these Clearance communities and who will not marry outside of one of these communities (good thing there's a lot of them... inbreeding.. scary)

See if this will work

Ah, Polwarth but you've been a good sport about it. I believe that people are offensive and don't realize that they're being offensive... so when you point it out to them... the fighting begins

I'm trying to present this in a way to promote open, intellectual discussion

Thank you for your reply. I believe the sentiment is because Scots were forced out of their country, they went on to build other great nations like Australia, Canada, and the US where many of the great people (inventors, philosophers, academicians, musicians, etc) were descended from the people force out of Scotland.
