Some kiddies shouldn’t have nice toys !
I know in the scheme of things, this post is about things which people like us ordinary working folk will never afford or even desire to have (we’re far too practical for that !). But still, we can appreciate beautiful things when we see them.
In this case, I’m talking about Ferrari.
Some well-heeled Omanis here own Ferraris and/or Lamborghinis. Maseratis are thinner on the ground. Porsches are more numerous. (Me ? I’ve got a 4 year-old Mazda 6 with a broken off-side rear lighting lens !).
As well as the signature colours of Ferrari Red and Lamborghini Yellow, a few appear on the streets in other colours, including white. This week I saw an unusual colour of Lambo, it was a matt/satin aluminium and looked exceedingly cool.
However, one or two owners have unusual tastes which I find either barbaric or insulting to the marque ! A few weeks ago, I saw a beautiful new red Ferrari on which its owner had done a custom paint-job. It now had vivid blue-doors ! (As Gordon Ramsay would say
“F**k me senseless !” ).

Yesterday, I saw another red Ferrari whose owner had gone to some custom shop and stuck a large tailored plastic stick-on sheet in the Omani national colours (red, green, white) over the entire rear engine cover panel and back body of the car. It had been cut to fit around the rear- lights and also the Ferrari logo and name etc. Quite a few Omanis put Omani national stickers of various sizes on their various models of saloon cars, SUV’s, CRV’s and pick-ups, especially around national days (maps, flags, emblems of the country etc) and they usually show the red/green/white colours. I realize this Ferrari owner is being patriotic etc etc, but if he ever removes the sticker, what mess it’ll make. (But he can obviously afford the repair costs). But the decoration just drags the beauty of such a car down to back-street level. Like using a thoroughbred Arab stallion to pull a cart !
Having said all that, if I won a Ferrari or Lambo in a competition (eg like at Heathrow Airport) with a cash alternative, I’d take the dosh !
