Legion of Frontiersmen
Has anyone heard of this organization ?
Apparently, it’s been in existence since 1905 and still exists today. Though considered by some as a paramilitary organization and possibly as an auxiliary military organisation by themselves, they are civilians with no official government military sanction. I presume they don’t carry weapons (at least the UK branch). They are thought to have some ex-military personnel in their membership. They wear a range of uniforms determined by their location, some being rather grand. They issue a range of medals to their membership. Raised as a private patriotic gesture at a time of European insecurity, it appears to have been kept at arms’ length throughout its existence by the British establishment (including military) and basically ignored. They did raise a battalion (25th Royal Fusiliers) for service in Africa during WW1, but presumably it was the equivalent to a pals’ battalion and had no more independent military kudos or standing than say the Glasgow Boys’ Brigade Battalion (16th HLI). There is a wikipedia link to Legion of Frontiersmen: Legion of Frontiersmen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There is also an Army Rumour Service entry for the Legion of Frontiersmen. The ARRSE site, being populated mainly by serving and past British soldiers, is less complimentary in its assessment of the L of F, apparently likening them to WALTS. Legion of Frontiersmen - ARRSEpedia For definition and examples of WALTs, see below. Walts - ARRSEpedia There is (or was) a Scottish LoF unit (see below):- Scottish Command, 1st Highland Brigade, Legion of Frontiersmen Volunteers (Yeomanry) The Welsh too are represented in this civilian organisation:- Untitled-1 Called Countess Mountbatten's Own Frontiersmen (Welch Command), they even wear kevlar combat helmets with dpm camo covers. The ARRSE threads (there have been a couple) have outed quite a number of WALTS - especially one who is English, resident in Ireland. The same group of delusionals were also involved in some kind of alliance with the weird groups of Eastern Europeans who have a sort of Guild of Bodyguards in which one of the prime movers was Michel Lafosse, aka the Wee Belgie, the imposter who said he was the rightful King of Scotland. (Until he was finally outed by journos!)
And noo we've anither wan oan here, too.... Jings, crivvens

Pol, I've met this wee guy, on an unmade road, he was on horseback with his entourage. A flunkey was sent down to ask if I could move the car to the side to let the Prince of Albany pass. I obliged, not having a clue who the hell was the Prince of Albany. An undistinguished Hiram Holiday type figure with no chin.I think he was retracing the tracks of the Bonnie Prince himself! Whether he had any connection to Alabama, I couldn't hazard a guess!

Nope
BUT, he had a 'court artist' in Canada.... does that count? He showered fowk around the the world with Knighthoods at ceremonies as far away as the USA and Lithuania... not forgetting some of the gullible Scots who fell for his 'charms'..
