"Scotch" is a drink. The use of the term to describe a person, or group of people, is considered offensive by most Scottish people.

I think that's a bit pedantic. Scotch was common parlance for the Scots in Burns' time, indeed he used it himself. My Scots dictionary is quite happy with the term. The whisky industry monopolised the word but it still survives in the vernacular. "The Scotch Irish", "Scotch Horses" an "Auld Scotch Wife" etc. wullie m

You're not advocating the re-introduction of ALL previously common racial terms, I trust?

Language is merely a tool, and is constantly evolving. These days, the term is considered offensive by practically all Scottish people - certainly, I don't know anybody who will allow such a use to pass uncommented.
