I think that's a bit pedantic. Scotch was common parlance for the Scots in Burns' time, indeed he used it himself. My Scots dictionary is quite happy with the term. The whisky industry monopolised the word but it still survives in the vernacular. "The Scotch Irish", "Scotch Horses" an "Auld Scotch Wife" etc. wullie m
