The Other Side Of The Coin

I'm sorry but I have to finally say something about the Scottish snobbery going on here I was in Scotland so I KNOW there are some wonderful friendly Scots who CAN get along with people who are not Scottish and to these great people I hug and forever give my heart to. It's to the others who bristle at anyone who tries to reach out to them with anything that even looks like anything that just might look like something that looks like something that just might offend them..... get a grip! You want your own country? You have to get along with the other countries in this world and you can't even get along with the other people on this forum! I am sorry that there were people who have hurt you in the past - I was NOT one of them and some of these people were not them either. Instead of being complimented that someone who isn't lucky enough to have been born in Scotland is envious and proud that they have an ancestor that was, you pick their bones from their scrawny bodies and kick at their groins! I have seen more Scottish snobbery and bigotry here than should ever be seen. Grumpy, mean, festering, brooding, unfriendly.... is this what you want the world to think of Scotsmen and Scotswomen? I don't or I wouldn't be putting my head on the chopping block by writing this. I see people signing on here, and yes, maybe they WEREN'T BORN IN SCOTLAND (God forgive them!) - but they just might want to get to meet some people here. And no wonder they aren't posting and not staying - who would want to stay with the grumpy lot of you? I know you can be better than that because I trust what my friends were and are. PLEASE don't just throw barbs at me and do listen. If I am to die let it not be in vane.

'Mean'? 'Festering'?

Most of the Scots on here TRY to help when questions are asked, whether about travel, history, 'clans' or whatever.. All in the spirit of broadening the REAL information about Scotland for foreigners. I've taken a great part in trying to do just that.

What many of us really take issue with is the Brigadoonish 'I have never stepped foot out of my own country, but I feel Scotland calling to me' type of posts - or those that make sexist jokes re kilts...

Now, if you have anything to ADD to the discussions, you are more than welcome and I applaud you for it.

You've been a member for a very long time.... where ya bin for most of the past few years? Certainly not on here!

Thank you, Polwarth, for not just slamming me. You have earned my respect in that. The things you are talking about I also heard from my friends over in Scotland and I wish I could do something to soothe that over but I don't know what it is I could do. Where have I been.... well, as I put it in some of my other recent posts (I think... my mind isn't what it used to be so maybe I thought it and it didn't make it to the post... dang mind anyways)... my health has gone down the tubes over the past years and I've gone in and out of times of depression. I'm usually a pretty happy person and love to make others happy - hence you will usually see my posts in this forum trying to cheer people up. When I was going through the bad times I didn't want to bring others down and kept to myself. It's been recently that things have been good enough to feel I could come back on to forums and see if any of my old friends were around. It HAS been a long time and most of them are gone. I consider this a chance to make new ones then (hopefully) but I DO have a sense of humor and enjoy kidding around. My reason for going over to Scotland was to actually MEET the people and I was blessed enough to live with them and do things with them and their families.

Angry

I might try to read the O.P. again when I can be bothered to put in paragraph breaks and tedious stuff like that. Oh, you know, since you think that "God" put you on this earth to bring people together, perhaps your god can sort that out for you.

Oh, I am sure, anyway, that you will not die in a weather vane.

Again, with a quick skimming read,

Well well, and dearie me, if that's the way you want to find people, I am sure that's that's the way you will find them.

If it's snobbish to ask that people see us for what we are (a proud, modern social-democratic nation) and not for what you'd like us to be (kilts, heather and shortbread tins), then I'll plead guilty.

An American telling us that as an independent country we'd "have to get along with the other countries in this world" !!!

Dearie, I'd suggest you'd be better putting your own house in order first - and you've got the chance next month.

You appear to.
