only thing is hello123 is that the wreath wouldnt have been from the ancient army but from the modern terror group so claiming its ok because of said ancient army is you trying to justify hatred and bigotory no matter where your from or how much knowledge you claim to have

The Ulster men , and others , went to war as the The 36th (Ulster) Division and it is by that name that they should be remembered and honoured .
The Division is universally recognised for the heroism and sacrifice and military achievements of the men who served in it .
To refer to those soldiers as the UVF is an insult to the thousands who fought and died in the First world War , and who had nothing to do with that civilian militia group and it's agenda.

No not really, there are many organisations/associations around today to remember the UVF of 1912 their legal organisations and often government funded!

such as:
36th (Ulster Division) Memorial Association, Regimental Bands Association and Ulster Volunteers Memorial Association.

The wreath may have been placed by any one of those or by individuals who's fathers, grand-fathers or great-grandfathers served in the UVF. To answer the second poster above although the UVF formed the 36th Ulster Division and that name was formally used its common place every year for the term Ulster Volunteers or UVF/YCV to be used on memorials during remembrance events.

I'm not seeking to get into a debate, that's not why I posted my comment I simply thought I should at least comment and inform people not to jump the gun on this issue as the UVF played a massive! role in World War one and deserve to be remembered like everyone else.

If however (which is unlikely) the wreath was placed in remembrance of the recent paramilitary group then your dealing with a totally different organisation and something that shouldn't be included in remembrance events.

Quote:
Outraged ex-servicemen this week hit out after a poppy wreath claming to be from the loyalist terrorist group the Ulster Volunteer Force
so we can only assume its was sent by the them

to which any sane person would be rightly outraged.

Yea I read that but you know what the media are like they haven't got a clue and just print these stories to sell papers and make headlines.

It seems that the UVF make a habit of this

Outrage over laying of UVF wreath at City Hall cenotaph
Belfast Telegraph

By Claire McNeilly
15 November 2006

SDLP Assembly man Alban Maginness last night called for an investigation into an alleged wreath-laying ceremony at the Belfast Cenotaph by the UVF.

Mr Maginness was referring to an incident that occurred on Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph at Belfast City Hall, when members of the paramilitary group are said to have formed in ranks around 9am.

This is an outrage," he said.

"The UVF may claim some lineage to their historical namesakes, but veterans and relatives of the those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country will be disgusted at this sullying of their good name."

He added that the wreath, complete with the clear lettering UVF was yesterday still on the Cenotaph amongst others laid at official ceremonies.

"Everyone knows their claim to links with the organisation formed in 1914 is a gross distortion and a ruse to fly their flags," he said.

"If it is true that this vile practice has been going on since 1998, I want to know who has tolerated this on city council property for nearly a decade.

"If the UVF want to become an 'old boys' commemorative organisation then we will be expecting them to hand in their guns forthwith."
