Energy companies' stifling of new technology

Having heard a lot about energy companies buying up and locking away patents for new technology that might replace the fossil fuel status quo, I'd be interested to know if anyone knows of any good websites that name the technology and the companies in question.

I'm guessing Exxon, B.P., Shell, Texaco to name a few.

Found this website, keyboard shortcut: control - f and type 'patents' if you want to see the relevant section on solar.

dont know of any websites but id imagine your right re them hiding or holding back technology to keep us using fossil fuels.
theyl also be lobbying the powerful to block or ban the use of certain things to keep them wealthy.

a perfect example of this is marijuana where the forest owners and wood mill owners lobbied the US congress to ban it as they thought the use of its fibres for rope and building materials would send them out of business, the ban of it had nothing to do with it being smoked and till this day its still banned in most places and fabricated evidence about its hazards have become common knowledge.

And to think that it could prevent so much deforestation and rare species' extinction if allowed for industrial use. Very sad.
