Everyone seems to have one now-a-days. I know I can't live without mine, but there are so many different brands out there that choosing one can be very difficult. Anyone have any fave brands to recommend?

I have tried many different ones, Nokia seems to be consistently good NEC and Erricson seem to be consistently bad for me. Right now I have a Samsung and am quite happy with it.

Moon,

I recently got a cell phone for work, having resisted the trend. Personally, I'm not always glad I have it, it's one more thing to remember when I leave home... there are times when it's helpful, but I wouldn't feel like I was missing something if I didn't have it..

Don't have one, don't feel the need to have one! I would rather speak to a person in person! There is nothing more irritating, to me anyway, than to be speaking to a person or a group and have phones interupt. That just tells me that whomever is calling is more important than whomever is actually speaking! No one is that important! LOL

Well, like any phone call (or any other interruption), there's no requirement to respond to it immediately.

I once took a call from someone who wanted to speak to a colleague in another office.

'Have you tried ringing his number?' says I.

'Yes, but I got an answering machine and I don't like speaking to machines,' says caller.

'What do you think you're speaking into right now?' says I.

Forget High Technology, Green Technology, Alternative Technology. What we need is Appropriate Technology, and cellphones are appropriate in many situations. And since most manufacturers make reliable products, which is best depends on individual circumstances.
