I remain sceptical - some of the claims seem far fetched, reminiscent of those made in the early days of any technology, nuclear power being a good example. The chief executive of the Institute of Nanotechnology http://www.nano.org.uk is a friend of mine. She's naturally upbeat about its future but is realistic about the difficulties in making nano mechanical devices (as opposed to electronic devices). I'll get an opinion next time she's in the pub.

I was talking to Ms Nano about this last night in the pub. The concensus was that fears are premature at least.

Of course it doesn't help when our own dear Charlie pontificates on the matter:
