Artoo, have you read Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451? This deals with a girl whose family has moved to Venus where it rains 99.99% of the time.

I think we need to start a new thread about the 'marriage' of Science and Sci-fi! LOL
Fahrenheit 451 is about a society in which firemen burn books - 451 degrees being the temperature at which paper ignites. The 'hero', Montag, becomes curious and starts to read forbidden books, with the inevitable consequences. I think the movie was more upbeat at the end than the novel.

I don't think I've read the 'Venus' story.

Anyway, I'll have a look in on the lit forum. I've always crusaded to get SF regarded as respectable literature - Iain Banks might be a good topic to fire off (if no-one's already done it).

AUGH!

Brain dead moment!

That short story is "All Summer in a Day". Sorry about that, had been reading through a list of his stories, thought one, named it another! Fahrenheit 451 was a good story, too. I have not seen the movie.

Basically, I contend that Science can be affected by Literature and vice verse. While the artist may delve into scientific realms purly for abstract, artistic interest, the Scientist lends a quality of order to that abstractness. The artist MAY suggest a hypothesis, the Scientist WILL test that theory.

(Working together, kathyv's plan for utopia on our planet!) LOL
