Helloo, I'm wondering if any of you are Raelians? If not, have you visited the site Rael.com? What do you think about the advances in cloning? For or against? Just wondering!

Hi Kennedy_from_Canada

Welcome to Scotland.com

I checked out the addy that you supplied.. rael.com.. but there was no site about clonning there.. I also tried real.com but again nothing...I would be very interested in finding out more on this subject and would be very grateful if you could post any links you have and are willing to share ... thanks..

Also from my limited knowledge of clonning so far I think its a good thing.. growing ears on mice and using pigs for hearts and stuff can at this point only be benificial .. I think its too easy to get caught up on the Star Wars perspective of it..or like in the movie 6 Days or several other Science Fiction based movies I could mention...and I think the idea of growing full sentient human beings is probably wrong but as far as I am aware we cannot yet clone the brain so I dont see any immediate reason to become scared of these techniques when much of there present ability and short term future ability could be used for serious good... also though I am not even sure that they have it right yet anyway..I know the cloned Molly the sheep...but did she not die within a couple of years with some blood disease?

Cool Oops! :)

The correct address is rael.org. Sorry. The orgs and coms always confuse me. Anyhoo, there is much more than just cloning on the site, as it is for a religion that very much centers around cloning as its creation theory, so I warn you that you must have an open mind when reading their beliefs. The Raelian religion is a direct proponent of the Clonaid company, which claims to have cloned somewhere around 6 babies. Their website is clonaid.com. I find their claims doubtful, but not entirely impossible. I don't know if you've heard the latest news from Asia but they have cloned a human embryo. Now I agree with you that cloning humans may be a little while off, but the medical possibilities are many, and the social reprocussions are amazing. Imagine living forever. Your memories would be transfered through the millions of chemical codes in your brain to a new body that is yours in a constant state of physical peak! Almost twilight zoney-ish, huh? I encourage you to read read read all you can online about cloning. Any specific questions? I will try to answer all you ask.

[i]I don't know .. I don't know.. I don't know..
lol

If you ask me.. it's just not right! Well.. all for Science eh? and I can totally understand Cloning as a means to help with medical issues... ears, etc.. that Talon was talking about.. but I guess my fear is of Cloning People.. I just don't like that idea.. I don't think its right.. and I'm sure it's not something that would be done, other then "hush hush" right? I mean.. I don't want to make this political.. but can these people be trusted to not clone a person? With the way things are hidden from us.. I guess I just have several trust issues..

If it will ONLY be used to help out in medical issues.. then fine.. wonderful.. but I'm afraid that people with that much power... tend to or perhaps I should say.. COULD use that power the wrong way.. Knowledge is Power..

I think there are good and bad issues to this. On one hand, it could create a race of generated people, on the other hand, no clone could be concieved in rape.....

There are moral and religous issues but those should be posted in the proper forums.

The science involved with this process is fantastic! Just think, we have the technology to create life with out breeding! No more keeping men underground and using them as breeding stock! (oops, sorry, wrong movie! LOL)

I can't say whether I am for or against, I am for advances in science and technology, but am against the misuse of such advances..... I don't think this should be a liscense to blithly clone the spectacular, but cloning medical needs such as transplant organs which wouldn't be rejected by your body would be a real bennefit to many.

Hi Again..

I have spent some time today reading over both of these sites... and thankyou for the links Kennedy it has been very enlightening reading...

Raelian

Clonaid

I must say though.. I think for as much as they are trying to make it sound otherwise... Raelianism is a religious cult... if it were not they would not refer to there founder as...and I quote..

"His Holiness Raël, the well-known spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement"

I think the concept of solving the worlds problems by humour is a laughable suggestion and their creation theory is well... a little on the silly side... though I wish them the best of luck and hope that their holy leader does not ask them to make that final sacrafice for the Elohim...

Also, on the subject matter at Clonaid.com... I was not aware that they had taken things so far... and I am amazed that with them having already cloned 6 babies..two years ago..and have 8 pregnancies on the go right now... they are already planning the next batch... who knows what these children will experience in the next 10/15 years.. and if at even 5 years old there becomes an evident flaw in the science of it all... we will be looking at a massacre of a minimum of 14 children... I think that it is shocking that they have found a whole in the world(Australia) were the cloning law does not apply and that they are carring on with this at such an accelerated rate.... and to be progressing so rapidly on this because of there belief in His Holyness Rael..who BTW is visited by the Elohim..who are Extra-Terrestrials!!!!... I must say.. I was not against the concept of Cloning before I seen these sites.. I can emphatically say now that these people are taking to large a step far to fast... and I am appauled at how often they quote the E.T. chatter Holy Rael

I hope for the sake of there souls they know what they do... I am now strongly opposed to all concepts of cloning..and the people who abuse its technology...

I am sorry if my views are not congruent to what you hoped for kennedy.. I always try to keep an open mind in anything I do...but this... this is just so wrong on so many levels

I also, before I read any of these sites... did not think this is morally right..it will only ever be elitest.. plus we already have a world population problem..

I would also like to clarify that I have no problem with Raelianism.. I think it sounds a bit far fetched and is all based on someone who chatted with Aliens(Elohim) in the 70's.. but it does no-one any harm and I am sure the 60,000 members in 90 countries have gained much from its teachings...

Its the missuse of the Clonning that I dislike
