Aw, come on guys! Discussing the possibility (and even the morality) of cloning is fair enough here but the whole rael.org stuff should be in the religious forum! Peace and harmony are Very Good Things but I'm being very restrained here and not telling you what I think of the idea of LGM visiting a French journalist.

New chips to pish on! Maybe we need a pseudoscience forum and all the Velikovskians Von Dannikenites, and Raelians can go and discuss their preposterous nonsense there. Have a wee look here.... http://www.skepdic.com/raelian.html They've had a "Pigasus" from James Randi... http://www.cultnews.com/archives/000188.html a "Bent Spoon" from the Australian Skeptics... http://www.skeptics.com.au/features/...-03raelian.htm Och - here's a rake of links http://www.skepticplanet.com/cgi-bin...&query=raelian My favourite quote so far is from Bob Carroll's Skeptic's dictionary - always a useful tool when dealing with this kind of stuff. "Their attempt at "scientific" evidence will have some appeal to the scientifically illiterate and the logically-challenged. The religion forum's getting a bit tame -same old same old Muslims and Born Agains - and poor old apologetic Feartie of course with his "god causes earthquakes to kill thousands so that good people can have an opportunity to show charity to the survivors" - (honest!), so send this fella over so we can laugh at him. |

I dont understand what you mean??...we have not been discussing the raelism any further really than passing reference and the fact its in the subject window... and since Kennedy is the only Raelist here, and has clearly said that she did not wish to discuss her religious views as they were very personal to her... as far as I am aware we have given primarily opinions on the Clonaid site and how we feel about what they claim to have done... maybe like whats been posted since I gave my opinion on the site that it is all just a hoax... is true..I dont know... but to be honest I dont really see how this thread should be in Religion when we were discussing our views on clonning...though I do agree that if all parties were willing Raelism would make a interesting subject in the Religion Forum Unless of course clonning is religious in some way..or that Clonaid is... like I say..I read the site and commented on what I read... but i must agree what I read sounds more likely to be a hoax than real...but then again stranger things have happened.... ![]() |

Well, I'm not out to fight with you, or indeed with KfC, who seems like a decent kid trying to find their spiritual way in the world, but Raelianism did appear in several earlier posts and Clonaid is very much a Raelianism project - with the same credibility as the idea of LGM ('little green men' - it's become a respectable term since SETI) visiting us in 1973 and talking to a motoring correspondent.
Not being a biologist (although I think CJ was), I'm not an expert on cloning but my understanding is that trying to clone complete human beings is: a: illegal (and I'm not a lawyer) b: immoral (and I'm not a Christian) c: unlikely to work (as shown by Dolly (not Molly)). Stem-cell research is obviously a vital part of medical science and shouldn't be banned (IMHO) but the kind of pseudo-science put about by the Raelianists via their Clonaid business doesn't do the case any good whatsoever. And only slightly off-topic: can't we have tolerance and harmony without the LGM?
