Hirta,
Glen Hoddle was unfortunate in that he expressed his beliefs rather bluntly and in such a way which left him wide open to attacks by the tabloid press. The views which he was expressing however are held by many Bhuddists and Hindus throughout the world and had he expressed them in an eastern country no one would have batted an eyelid.I believe that each human soul is a part of God-the universal consciousness and that we choose to reincarnate on earth in order that we may grow spiritually by overcoming life's hardships until at some point we may attain spiritual enlightenment or Nirvana. We all have absolute free will and choose the lives in which we live and which may give us the means of developing spiritually. However as all things in the universe are subject to Karma-the law of cause and effect,if we commit a sin in one life then we must face the consequences at some future point. In Zen Bhuddism there is a saying'what we do and what happens to us are the same-cause and effect are one'.However I do not believe that suffering will be forced upon us.I believe that our love for God is so great that we have an innate willingness to fulfill his purpose and thus would willingly choose lives of suffering in order to attain spiritual growth.Spirits which are enlightened may in fact choose to be born disabled in order to teach others the true meaning of love-in Bhuddism such enlightened souls are called Boddhisatvas. Some people who suffer the most debilitating illneses often find they become stronger people as a result of their disability rather than in spite of it.Everything in life-even suffering and disability should be seen as a means of achieving spiritual growth.I do not believe that hardship in life is good however I do believe that it can often provide people with an opportunity to achieve real spiritual growth.

Andy-J,
although I do not agree with your post in it's entirety I understand the reasoning behind it.

I am a Christian. I don't have a problem with Harry Potter. Parents need to instruct their children. Yes, Peter walked on water, but it was because it was God's will. It later came to show that if we keep focused on Jesus we won't fall spiritually, but once we look the other way or start living our lives the way we want, even for a second, we sink. I can see how from human logic, the Bible may seem dangerous if taken to be true, but the Bible is not meant to be looked at with human reasoning. The things that happen in the Bible are amazing...and impossible by our thinking, but not with God. With God...if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains. That is just to show that with God anything is possible, but it must be his will. If you are truly a Christian sacrificing your will, not trying to be like Jesus, but focusing on Him, his will becomes known to you.
