Yes it is. Is celibacy therefore an unrealistic goal?

No
I believe that its not!
But remember the old church saying
"the church is perfect, is the people who are not!"

Celibacy is unealistic

Yes, it is an unrealistic goal. I forget the detail and the names: 2 years ago an Englishwoman finally broke her silence and announced that her son, now 22 years old, was the result of her secret affair with a Catholic priest in the U.S. He had been sending them support. She wanted her son to openly name his father without guilt.

All these priests are normal men, and men have sexual needs and sexual urges. To suppress them for life is not normal, unrealistic, and unbiblical. Again, better to marry than to burn with desire.

Here is a mission story. In a certain part in Africa, if a male visitor is accepted as a guest, it is customery for the host to offer a daughter to sleep with the guest. One day a married protestant missionary passed by and was offered the customery hospitality, but he declined to sleep with the daughter. So the host was surprised and said, "The other missionary always receive my daughter with gratefulness." The missionary found out that the other person was a Catholic priest doing mission work in the area.

This saying sounds to me like the church is saying it can't be held responsible if one of its ministers does something wrong. Surely this would not be tolerated in practice.
