Cool

I myself am Baptist and this past year I have become friends with a person who is Jewish. I know Hanukkah is starting soon and would like to give him a gift. Should I do this on the first day or the last? Is it appropriate for someone not Jewish to give a gift to a Jewish person for Hanukkah?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
