Who says that the antichrist is a person? The scriptures make use of allegory to convey meaning.Antichrist could be a figurative term for anything which is in fundamental opposition to christian doctrines. An ideology such as communism or another religion perhaps.I have read of any number of possible identities to which the term antichrist has been attached, ranging from the Roman empire to Napoleon and Adolf Hitler.I believe that the term has some deeper meaning than simply refering to an individual person.

The Bible makes reference to many "anti-Christs". And like Andy said, that meaning against Christ. But there is reference to The Anti-Christ, who I believe to be a person. But Jesus doesn't say when this Anti-Christ will come. Depending on your views... either after or after the rapture of Christ's church. Christians believe that one day, God will call all of His people who are living on earth up to Heaven. They'll just disappear, without dying, and go to Heaven. That's called the rapture. From there, Christians tend to differ a little on what happens before or after that time. The Bible refers to a tribulation period which lasts for 7 years. During that time, the Anti-Christ will reign over the earth. The part that Christians "debate" about is if the rapture will come before, during, or after the tribulation period. The Bible doesn't clearly state that.
There's a good movie out now that depicts what is to happen. The title is Left Behind. There's a series of books about it too. I haven't seen or read them yet, just heard lots of comments about them. |
