Hey everyone, just wanted to see everyone's outlook on evolution. I myself believe in evolution not creationism. People ask, "Well then why is it not in the Bible? Why does it say God created people from dust?" Personaly though, I look at who the Bible was written by and directed to also. In 4BC Isreal, not many people would have understood the concept of evolution. But I just wanted to know how others feel on this theory. Thanks

Hallo Iain,
I have a very difficult time believing in evolution myself. If we evolved into who we are today than why aren't we continuing to evolve into something new? I dunno...just one of the many thoughts I have on the subject. I wholeheartly believe that the Bible is the authority on the matter of creation. If you study the Bible, even today, you'll find that it was written, not only for the Isrealites, but for everyone. And, it's very practical for today's world. However, I truly feel that it must be studied in it's FULL CONTEXT in order to see that. In other words, it should never be taken out of it's context. It's extremely consistant! I hope you find the answers you're looking for Iain. Take care! Pádaí |

Hello Iain and Padraigin,
Sorry Iain to disagree with you on this one, I do believe in God. I agree with what Padraigin has to say. I believe in the power of prayer. I do love you Iain, I love everyone, and I hope you find what you are looking for. I believe that you have a wonderful heart and you are a very kind person. You have proved it on this BB. If God didn't create the heavens and the earth????? ![]() Peace be with you.......... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ tolitha ------------------ "Who, being loved, is poor?" Oscar Wilde |

Personally, I feel no contridiction to beleive in both. For instance "God created all living creatures", (Well...I can create a cake, but it will take several stages, from mixing the batter, to pouring in the pan, to rising in the oven, etc), so who is to say God's creatures didn't "evolve" over long periods of time? (And WHO did Cain & Able marry, btw...must have been someone else somehwere...)
I do believe in Natural Selection. It is evident in humans and animals alike. (Sturdier stock so to speak...) Remember when Small Pox was an epidemic but Milk Maidens seemed immune? Scientifically, it was because the maidens contracted Cow pox which brought about an immunity, (but wasn't this in essence a "survival of the fittest" example?) Giraffes had much shorter necks history has shown, but as foliage was harder to eat, those with longer necks prevailed. Again, I think God played a hand in all of life but let "nature" take it's course from there, just as God has given us free will in our own decision making. |

What makes you think we are not evolving? You have to bear in mind that evolutionary processes take millions of years; you're not going to see significant changes from one year to the next or even from one generation to the next.
At the risk of stirring up controversy (which anyone who knows me will know I am never known to do ) this topic could only have been started by an American. Only the US, out of all modern societies, keeps its children in ignorance of evolution as a way of pandering to the religious right. Evolution is accepted as scientific fact everywhere, including the US scientific community, and is taught in schools everywhere, EXCEPT the US. You may as well ask if people believe in gravity, or if the Earth is a spheroid planet orbiting a fairly unremarkable star on the edge of a not very interesting galaxy in an expanding infinite Universe. Neither of these concepts are alluded to in the Bible either. As for the Bible, it is no more nor less than the imperfectly recorded history of a Semitic tribe and their own particular religious beliefs. It is as significant as the Book of Kells or the Icelandic Sagas, and just as relevant. ------------------ The man o' independent mind, He looks an' laughs at a' that. |

There is more than one type of evolution, and be careful not to confuse them.
Micro evolution happens within a species or genus, for example birds having different beaks, or dogs and wolves adapting different to their environment. Has been seen and scientifically proven, and what Darwin started out researching. Macro evolution is the popular thing that people associate evolution with, and involves cross species, or new species evolvement. Like apes to Humans, or fish to lizards, or dinosaurs to birds etc. This I have problems believing. Despite the popular link with Darwin to macro- evolution, as he lay dying he said that he wondered what all the fuss was about over his books, and wished that people were focussing on what was way more important in life, that is, your personal relationship with God. ------------------ More Irn Bru !!!! |
