I'm the one the person attacked by insinuating that I hate a particular group of people. The "tone" was set, when a person comes out accussing rather than asking. This person didn't ask what I meant by my posting and leave it at that. They added the remark that I was "homophobic." Not once, not even twice, but three times saying it. I'll be the first to admit, that I lost my patience with them.
That's what is frustrating on these boards. Most of us come to these boards as "entertainment." Occasionally to have a serious discussion. I think by now, most post along with those who fit our need at a particular time. I've been the victim myself of someone coming along and putting me in my place. Most of the times, not even knowing where their hostility came from.
For me the biggest turn-off is being labeled something that you are not, people making snide remarks about you personally, people making fun of the way you post, etc. There is a tendency if we don't understand to automatically assume the person is posting negatively. Example, I got a dissertation about saying "bath tissue," instead of "toilet paper!" Like that is a big deal.
I agree about the smilies, when they are sprinkled within a post, you can most likely suppose the person is teasing. However, I'm finding out that you can't even tease on here either.
