(Big Bang, not Big Band, I like Big Band)
Hello, I would just like to say that there are many similarities between Creationism and evolution. They are both religions, and are both based on faith. The only difference is one of them is sponsered by the state and allowed in public schools. This is of course evolution. It seems funny to me that a theory that can neither be proved, nor observed, nor studied, can be taught as fact in the public schools. It actually takes more faith to believe in evolution than creationism. Let me explain: Creation: An omnipotent God created the universe and gave it order. He created human beings to be his companions, that is why we are self aware and sentient. Evolution: Something came from nothing with no reason but chance. Bits of matter formed into very organized bodies (planets, stars, etc.) On one of these planets, again for no reason, amino acids suddenly decided to become something more than they were. Out of the whole planet two different organims got together and created the next step. Through millions of years (unprovable) these simple acids formed into multicellular beings. These multicellar beings eventually diversified into numerous disctinct species that fit together in a great ecosystem. Now one branch of these acids with delusions of grandeour, turned into human beings. These creatures somehow became different than all the others, self aware and sentient. And now here we are, for no reason, with nothing to do. Which one takes more faith? [This message has been edited by Modern Bard (edited 13 July 2000).] |

...um...I thought Evolution was being taught in science classes because it is interpreted as scientific theory. I see no problem in discussing Creationism in a Philosophy class or history of religions course. (Although, different religions have varrying thoughts on their own Creationism so the Christian viewpoint would be yet another philosophical theory).
Interestingly enough, My son had a High School English teacher who was a former Catholic Nun. (The kids said she was one of the easiest teachers to get sidetracked )Well, She was a sweet Irish woman who always spoke in Christian terms but sometimes my son would come home and we would hear a LOT of specifically Catholic undertones that she was also espousing. I think the woman would have been great teaching what she loved but this was in my son's, (required), english/grammer class at the public HS. Why were he and other students getting this heavy dose of Catholicism? (My sons have all been enrolled in Bible school before...but I kind of like having the choice of at least choosing which church...) |

First of all I want everyone to get this straight. The Roman Catholic Church is not Christianity and Christianity is not the Roman Catholic Church! The Catholic church bases it's beliefs on the traditions of the church, not the Bible. Christians follow Jesus Christ and believe the Bible as the inerrant word of God. People all over the world believe Catholism to be Christianity and visa versa. This is not true! If anything the Catholic churh has done more to hurt the name of Jesus. It was founded by a murderor named Constantine, not by Jesus Christ. Christians aren't here on earth for power, they are here to bring people to Christ. And as for evolution, prove to me that it has more scientific merit than Creationism. It does in fact, not. Evolution can neither be proven, nor tested. Creationism has the testimonies of hundreds of people by God over thousands of years. It is indeed worthy of study, and it is not a philosophy. Philosophy is the dreary work of man, not of God.
Beggin forgiveness if my expediency seemed to lack love, The Modern Bard |

I understand your point MB but that would seem to be one of the inherent issues if your suggestion be that Creationsim be taught in public schools. What of the Catholics, Mormons, Jews, etc. that may feel their Creatinism is more valid than Christianity's version? I am all for parent's rights to place their children in private religious schools to study their faith, but if it is a public school, it would seem unconstitutional to promote one faith over another.

philosophy is the work og man, well , aint the bible the work of man too.
I mean ,can you not take the words of Søren kiekegaard seriously because he is a religious philosopher?Does he not preach the word of God?And is the word of God the only thing that can be taken seriously? How is it ever possible to find the theory of evolution ignorant, if you have nothing better to offer?yes, it's a theory, and that's how you believe in it, as a theory, untill otherwise is proven, or something that could make more sense. you find it more believeble that God created everything , even that out of our own comprehention.? I believe in the beuty of nature, and the food-chain , the circle og life, i see it everyday in the forrest, and The god-created humans, as you would put it, are the ones wrecking everything. why seek the answers above, when we can find it in us and around us, why is it so hard to believe that something divine was created without the hand of your God, look at you, your a beutyfull piece of art, unic, why do you seem so angry at the people who believe this, that nature made you.? hope to hear your respond, i will be very willing to listhen to whatever you have to say...who know's, you may be right, but sofar ,, you have said nothing to convince me. Regards Maria. |

You spoke yourself of the harmony of nature. All animals fit into this incredible web of life without fault. All except humans. You yourself separated humans, they don't seem to fit in with nature. There not like all the other animals. If human beings are animals evolved from animals, what is your explanation for that. Why are we the only sentient animals, why do we kill and maintain sexual relationships simply for pleasure, why do we question who we are and our existance? This seems to separate us from all the animals, don't you agree?
