Thing is, with this "point of view" sermon idea, it sounds like the person is trying to please everyone at the same time, and if you're in a church, what's the danger in saying "this is what the Bible says" ?

Also if you go knowing it's only the person's point of view, you're less likely to be challenged as to whethere you think that yourself.

It says in 1 John to always test what you're being taught against what it says in the Bible.

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God."

MIS, personally myself I have trouble when you say "What is the danger in saying "This is what the Bible says?"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bible was what written 30 years after the death of Christ? You don't believe the men who first wrote down the scriptures didn't embellish them for their own use and purposes? The Bible portrays a rather harsh consequence to people who don't follow it's teachings. You don't see this as a way to control people? Where's the love in this? I won't even touch the portrayal of women in the Bible. We're either evil or perfect.
Secondly, King James had the Bible written and rewritten soooo many times. In my way of thinking, who knows if this is truly the word of God? I believe it's the word of man.

I agree with you Becca.
Bru think you are assuming that everyone believes as you do. The church that Willy is attending, allows you to believe in your own choice of what God is to you.

Andrew,
Our minister is a Theologian whose Doctorate is from Harvard University.
Oftentimes he will read a passage from the bible and then offer his interpretation as a learned scholar with citing examples and references to back up his opinion. He is not so arrogant as to think he speaks directly from God and therefore he is always open to hearing others thoughts on a subject he dearly loves. I can't help but respect that in a person, especially since no one on this earth is perfect.

Becca,
You are right, the Disciples wrote decades apart from one another. As for the Gospel of Thomas, it was never discovered until 1945! Most of the desciples wrote in Hebrew or Greek which was later written in Latin and translated to many other languages. Each time a "reinterpretation" was necessary for words that do not translate specifically from one language to the other.

Cool

Hello Anto,
I guess I don't have the faith that you have, I do not think I will ever be convinced, or believe in God, not that I do not want to but I can't. I have been searching to find something for a while now but I guess it is just not in the cards for me at this time, I will keep reading though. People say when you least expect it........

Hello,

I would like to participate in your topic if you would permit me to.
Does anyone of you know what Islam is? Has anyone of you read Qur'aan?
I have been reading what you have been writing and I noticed that some of the stuff I read as how you describe God and not believing in God having Shape and it is only spiritual. I do agree with you about that since in Islam God is not human and it can not be determined, it has no shape and it is everywhere we are and all the time.
God in Islam is refered by Allah which mean The only One God.
To those who consider themselves Atheist, just ask yourselves how was your body, your heart, your brain, your eyes were created? could that be just by chance? therefore, there is a god, it is a matter of finding it.

I used to believe in nothing and just party, got drunk, laid many girls and more bad things...I am proud to have met people who guided to me to the truth. The only book that shows the truth is called Qur'aan lick here to read
It contains many miracles, it contains science that we see today from Human development, Geology, Asronaumy,.. and this book remain protected unchanged for the last 1400 years. The media has given a bad reputation to Islam and that's why people don't know Islam, the minute they hear about Islam they think about they have heard on TV or read on the News paper. Also some muslims have given a bad reputation to Islam like some muslims in Afganistan or Iran. But the only thing I can say is people should be more responsible in what they hear and read, they should analyse what they hear and what they read.

You all know Cat Stevens When he embraced Islam he said:I am glad I knew Islam before I knew Muslims. Now he has a new name Yusuf Islam and he has a big mosque in London.

I would answer any questions you might have,

TheMuslim
