Oh I agree with you there Andy, church attendance has consistently dropped. But I think religion is engrained in our society - a friend of mine identifies himself as both an atheist and a Catholic. To him atheism is a choice whereas Catholicism is his identity by birth. You don't really see that anywhere but Scotland!

To believe in God without an apotheosis is to suspend your thinking ability and decide that a theology should be built on fantasy, miracles and magic. Not a good way to think that.

But some religious people push it.

“Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding.”

“Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has.”

Martin Luther “

This puts the rest of us in a position where reasoning with theist becomes impossible.

It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.
Jonathan Swift

Literalism is an evil practice that hides the true messages of myths.

That can work but goes against the esoteric ideas of Jesus.

To his thinking, you only have one Father who you have to displace in your higher mind once you activate your third eye or single eye as Jesus calls it.

As a Gnostic Christian, I think you can internalize any myth so there is not reason that your belief should prevent your apotheosis.

Just internalize whatever you believe. It will sort itself out.

Rather hard on yourself but lying to yourself would be wrong.
